Hi! This is Jesse (한지원)

I’m a Stanford Science Fellow working in astrophysics. Prior to that, I completed my PhD student in Astronomy & Astrophysics at Harvard University, working with prof. Charlie Conroy and Lars Hernquist.

I study how the stellar halo and the dark matter halo of our Galaxy has been shaped by an ancient major merger, leading to the warping of the disk. I’ve also been thinking about how to image the whole sky with the Roman space telescope.

Recently, we uncovered evidence of a supermassive black hole in our nearest neighboring galaxy, the LMC. Listen to it on NPR’s All Things Considered!

Outside of science, I spend a lot of time climbing rocks & ice, spreading dance, and thinking about coffee.
